The Nordic countries have committed themselves to ambitious climate goals towards 2050 in terms of developing energy efficient and low-carbon societies. To achieve these goals, extensive green transitions are needed in all areas of the Nordic societies and economies, facilitated by promoting green economic growth, sustainability and competitiveness in both the public and the private sectors.
The overall aim of the initiative is to produce new knowledge on how to foster and advance the transition to a bio-based economy in the Nordic countries by integrating research, innovation and entrepreneurship in the private and public sectors.
The Prime Ministers’ pioneering Nordic cooperative effort became the Top-level Research Initiative. This book describes some of the important results from the initiative by the five Nordic Prime Ministers: Geir H. Haarde, Jens Stoltenberg, Anders Fogh Rasmussen,Fredrik Reinfeldt, Matti Vanhanen.
The programme will be cross-disciplinary and will strengthen the knowledge base within Arctic research in a broad sense, thereby supporting integrated research efforts in health and medicine, humanities and social sciences, and natural sciences and technology.
