The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the need for new knowledge and improved cooperation among Nordic countries, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by Post-COVID Condition (PCC), also known as Long COVID.
PCC presents significant health and economic challenges, impacting work participation, quality of life, and workability, thereby leading to increased healthcare costs and productivity losses. To address these issues, we propose a three-year Nordic collaborative network named the Nordic Post-COVID Economic Impact Consortium (NPCEIC).
Our objectives are to foster ongoing collaboration in health economic research, quantify the direct and indirect costs of PCC, identify cost-effective management strategies, and disseminate findings both regionally and internationally.
We will host three annual workshops, quarterly webinars, and a joint Nordic PCC Conference to facilitate discussions and share best practices. Patient organizations and policymakers will be engaged to ensure research aligns with patient needs and policy implications.
The consortium will produce a comprehensive white paper detailing economic assessments and policy recommendations. This effort will enhance resource utilization, promote best practices, and provide a cohesive strategy for managing PCC, ultimately improving the health and economic resilience of Nordic societies. Through this unified approach, we aim to generate data-driven insights and actionable recommendations that will benefit the entire Nordic region and contribute to global knowledge on PCC.
