The initiative aims to involve the very best agencies and institutions in the Nordic region, and promote research and innovation of the highest level, in order to make a Nordic contribution towards solving the global climate crisis.
The TRI aims to develop reliable climate models to predict future climate change, while at the same time better preparing society to deal with the impacts of climate change.
Sub-initiatives
The Top-level Research Initiative consists of six sub-progammes encompassing the entire solution chain from research on climate change and its impact on society, to innovation and the development of solutions within environmental technology, energy efficiency and new forms of energy. NordForsk has a particular responsibility for the first two sub-initiatives:
- Effect studies and adaptation to climate change
- Interaction between climate change and the cryosphere
- Energy efficiency with nanotechnology
- Integration of large-scale wind power
- Sustainable bio-fuels
- CO2 - capture and storage
The Top-level Research Initiative's secretariat
