QUINT and NordForsk have invited Nordic speakers with a range of professional perspectives on education. They will discuss the challenges faced by the education sector in the Nordic countries during the pandemic. What measures did each country take? What could have been done differently? What has each country learned, and what can we learn from each other? Policy makers, researchers and school leaders will share their thoughts.

Part I – Presentations by QUINT researchers

Introductions about the impact that the pandemic has had on schools in the Nordic countries. From papers published in Education in the North special issue: Nordic values and schooling during COVID-19.

Ane Qvortrup – Professor in Education at University of Southern Denmark, Denmark "Long-term consequences of COVID-19 on students' well-being and values"

Hermína Gunnþórsdóttir – Professor at University of Akureyri, Iceland "Teachers in new situations during the COVID-19 period: impact on professional collaboration and quality of teaching."

Anna Slotte – University Lecturer at University of Helsinki & Marie Nilsberth – Associate Professor in Educational Work at Karlstad University, Sweden (joint presentation). "Classrooms going online: Nordic lower secondary teachers' readiness at the COVID-19 outbreak." 

Marte Blikstad-Balas – Professor at University of Oslo, Norway. "Individualised home-schooling - at odds with the equity ambitions in the Nordic model of education?"

Part II – Panel discussion

Panel discussion with Nordic politicians, leaders of teachers' trade unions, and school leaders on the education measures taken in each country during the pandemic.
